About Chef Vikram Vij

Vikram Vij¹s Vancouver restaurant has become infamous across Canada, and now globally as one of the finest Indian dining experiences in the world. Vij moved to Canada in 1989 to work at the Banff Springs Hotel. In 1994, he opened Vij¹s Restaurant in Vancouver. Ten years later Vij and his wife Meeru Dhalwala opened a second restaurant called Vij¹s Rangoli. At this location they began selling a line of packaged gourmet curries, based on the restaurant¹s popular recipes. By 2011, demand was so high for Vij¹s Inspired Indian Cuisine products, a purpose-built production facility opened in Surrey, where the meals are cooked by hand and distributed across the country. 2014 will see the move of Vij¹s Restaurant to a larger location, and the opening of a new concept restaurant in South Surrey called My Shanti. Vij has appeared on Top Chef Canada, Chopped Canada, which premiered on Food Network Canada in January 2014 and on CBC¹s Recipe to Riches, airing from February 2014. It was recently announced that Vij will join the cast of Dragons¹ Den this spring.

Julia Hanna, The HealthyFam - Friday at 2pm

Julia Hanna’s lifelong philosophy has always been “Family is whoever sits around the dinner table.” This philosophy has set the tone for Julia’s culinary career. Julia’s most passionate undertaking is her not-for-profit initiative, HealthyFam. In 2009, with founding partner Longo’s, Julia created The Kids Culinary Community, a hands-on program dedicated to empowering children through the knowledge of food. In 2013, she launched HealthyFam, which includes the Kids Culinary Community, the Family Culinary Community and the Seniors Culinary Community. HealthyFam helps children, families and seniors build a foundation for healthy living.

Using his “coffee pot brewery” Justin will showcase how the brewing process massages flavours out of the main ingredients and how the recipe to making beer can brew up some wonderful flavours in the kitchen.

Tim Everett, Whole Foods Market - Sunday at 12noon and 2pm
Tim was born and raised in Burlington and now resides in Toronto. He grew up working in all different kinds of restaurants, and went to Liaison College for Culinary Arts for his formal training. Recently, Tim worked in a Mediterranean semi fine dining restaurant for seven years before coming to Whole Foods Market where he has been for the past eight years. His favourite things to cook are “keep it simple” meals with good quality ingredients. Tim’s passion for the healthy eating stems from his belief that you don’t have to eat unhealthy for things to taste good.

Terry Salmond - Sunday at 1pm

Terry Salmond is the executive chef at the Walper Hotel in Kitchener, ON. A self-trained chef, Terry quickly worked his way up starting with Marche, and later working for Susur Lee at Susur Restaurant, Matthew Stowe at Sonora Resort and Jonathan Gushue at Langdon Hall. Terry met his wife when he was only 15 years old and knew immediately that he loved her. They finally got together five years later, and now have two young daughters.
